The Korpiklaani Saga

The wilderness and backwoods have always been a strange and frightening place for both travelers and familiar folk. Ancient Finnish lore tells of the forest growing over a village, of "forest wanderers" and "golden heroes of the forest," people who lived and grew in the backwoods. These people carried jewelry: "shining silver," those who saw them reported. With their help, the forest folk could travel long distances to other lands, gaining safety, knowledge, and endurance to cross seas, continents, and lands of silence. The jewelry never failed its wearer. The forest folk were spoken of as: "renowned beautiful wanderers," whose evening gatherings, music, and songs reached the villages. "The forest sang, the backwoods boomed," the villagers explained in the following days. Among the people, stories of the forest folk passed from father to son for hundreds of years. Among the forest folk, the jewelry, like words, passed from father to son and mother to daughter. Each of them was known by their jewelry. Over the centuries, the descendants of these people grew and rose to form the clan of the backwoods, who, like their ancestors, traveled from land to continent, crossing seas and lands of silence, carrying with them the spirit of a wanderer, the tongue of a drunkard, strength, protection, or the knowledge-giving "golden king of the backwoods" jewelry.

The jewelry, forged at the beginning of time and sun for the necks of the backwoods folk, was intended for the wanderer seeking knowledge. It was shaped like a shaman drum, with an ancient shamanic symbol added to its center to remind of all knowledge. The jewelry empowered the wanderer's path in the known and unknown world. Its wearer received all the knowledge from the path they walked that those who had previously walked the path knew. For the wearer of the jewelry, all paths were possible to walk, and the chosen path was always the right one.
